Webinar: Play, Participation and Poverty
Webinar recorded 23/10/23 Australia
Play, participation & poverty: How our policies can create fairer, healthier futures for children & young people
With Anti-Poverty Week and Children’s Week both falling in October, NAPCAN takes a look at the important overlap between the themes of the two weeks: child poverty and play.
This fresh conversation builds on what we already know… that:
- activities like outdoor play, organised sport, dance and drama outside of school are good for the future health of all children
- the benefits are greatest for young people who commonly have the least access to these activities (i.e. from lower-income families)
- our policies have the power to remove many of the barriers that lock people out of opportunities to play and participate
- fantastic local examples are providing insight into simple, smart investments that are creating fairer, more protective communities for children.
Hear from passionate researchers and advocates on the topic:
- Dr Alex O’Donnell from the University of Tasmania shares his research about how extracurricular activities benefit children and young people, including new research about impacts on mental health
- Sally Weir from the Department of Territory Families, Housing and Communities, Northern Territory Government and Rachel Fosdick, the Board Secretary and Founder of Palmerston and Regional Basketball Association, talk about the Palmerston Youth Activities Programs and the benefits that are being seen when young people are connected to activities in fair and equal ways
- Hyahno Moser, founder of the Australian Institute of Play, shares his decades of experience promoting access to outdoor neighbourhood play including in organisations such as Nature Play and Logan Together, Qld.

What kind of monster screams at a helpless infant like that. Or any less a child that’s too little to defend themselves. I hope you get cancer in your eyeballs if you do that.

I feel for all the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as their families' ties were broken. We as educators have to teach all the children how to be friends, acceptance, love and respect for one another. And this is a long term goal- it will help our nation to be strong TOGETHER. ❤

If you land abusive foster parents in prison, they will most certainly try to get out of prison and get revenge on the child they say ruined their lives. They will try to track down their victim first. Can something be done about thaT?

Honourable Minister Colin Brooks.... You talk about every child needing a fair go and you speak as if you actually care.... Why then have I sent 28 emails and in excess of 43 phone calls to your office and the previous Ministers offices over an 11 month period and I have not had the courtesy of even ONE formal response.... My complaint is about Child Protection workers failing miserably in doing/not doing their job when genuine reports are made about serious injuries to my children? To then add insult to my children's injuries, your unethical, unprofessional, staff are so gender bias they then turn on myself in family court Proceedings they mislead the Judge by fabricating information, falsely quote a Judge and Police officer as having said something in which they did not.... On top of all this the MARAM SHARING INFORMATION SCHEME is a SCAM when it is being used without any evidence based information going through but rather just lies without evidence in a Vitriolic attack against a loving/caring father who has been trying too protect his children.... Now because of your staff lies and unethical practices of which I have sent your office, plus the Attorney General's Department along with Daniel Andrews office at least 400 pages of evidence showing how your staff lie and the outcome has been that my children left suffering more Child abuse.... Please explain too your receptionist Amy that it is extremely rude too keep telling me over an 11 month period that "Minister is quite busy as you can imagine, your complaint is with the right department and it can take 4 to 6 weeks before you get a response but you will get a formal response " She then proceeds to tell me that I can always send another email and she will make sure that it goes to the right department.... Tell me Minister, have you received 28 formal complaint emails from me? Have you been informed of 43 plus phone calls to your office? If not then first thing is first, Sack Amy your unethical/misleading receptionist.... Please feel free to ask your staff for my emails as I have been begging too sit down with you or some very senior to show you evidence of your workers at Child Protection lying underoath and abusing my children in the process.... Child Protection are supposed too Protect Children not abuse them, what don't your staff understand? How do they confuse the word PROTECTION WITH ABUSE because currently they are getting paid with taxpayers money too abuse my children and no doubt 1000s of children just like mine.... Look forward too receiving a formal response and an opportunity too meet with you in Private or in a meeting with A Current Affairs Program..... Ps. 29/11/22 Today I wish to add that I have called your office 8 times in the past 4 weeks & the answering machine says that your office is experiencing high calls and that I am to ..... (leave my name and number and your office will return my call)... 4 weeks, - 8 call made, - NOT ONE CALL RETURNED BY YOUR OFFICE... WHY DO YOU AND YOUR STAFF EXPECT TO BE TREATED/THINK YOU DESERVE COURTESY & RESPECT??? NOT ONLY HAVE YOU AND YOUR STAFF NOT SHOWN ME AND MY CHILDREN ANY COURTESY & RESPECT, IN FACT YOUR STAFF HAVE LIED, ABUSED THEIR POSITION, BEEN UNETHICAL, UNPROFESSIONAL, UNEDUCATED, GENDER RACIST, WORST OF ALL THEY HAVE COMMITTED CHILD ABUSE ON MY CHILDREN.... IM NOT MISTAKEN OR EXAGGERATING HERE AT ALL.... DFFH - CHILD PROTECTION HAS COMMITTED CHILD ABUSE ON MY CHILDREN... I am going to update my posts weekly until they go viral.... Kind Regards Genuine Writer Everything written is written because I have the evidence too back up my words....
